Sexual and Gender Minority Stressors and Mental Health

We are looking for participants of all sexual orientations (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual) and gender identities, aged 16+ years for an online study on mental well-being. Your participation will increase our knowledge about how stress impacts mental health in sexual and gender minorities. You will be asked to complete questionnaires about your gender, sexual feelings, childhood behaviour, experiences of discrimination and prejudice, how you think, how you feel, and your thoughts about your identity. Overall, completing the online survey should last no longer than 30 minutes. The study is approved by King’s College London Psychiatry, Nursing and Midwifery Research Ethics Subcommittee (reference PNM/13/14-110)

Cardiovascular Outcomes Study for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

-Have Type 2 Diabetes
-Take no more than 3 oral diabetes medications
-Have some degree of cardiovascular risk

Enlarged Prostate Study

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY?
This study will compare an investigational dietary supplement to placebo to see if it helps volunteers with enlarged prostate (BPH).

WHO IS NEEDED?
1. Volunteers must be male
2. Volunteers must be at least 45 years old
3. Volunteers must have enlarged prostate (symptoms may include frequent/or urgent urination during the day or night, weak stream, stream that starts and stops, a feeling of not emptying the bladder all the way, and/or a need to strain to get urination started).

WHAT IS INVOLVED IF I PARTICIPATE?
Duration:This study will last 72 weeks. There will be a total of 9 study appointments (visits last from about 30 – 60 minutes).
Tests/Procedures:Lab tests, EKG (traces heart rhythm), and digital rectal exam
Risks:Risks will be discussed with volunteers as part of the informed consent process.
Benefits:There are not any known direct benefits to the volunteer.
Compensation:Compensation is not provided.

Postate Cancer Study

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY?
The purpose of the study is to determine if certain genes increase the chance of developing prostate cancer.

WHO IS NEEDED?
1. Caucasian males 75 years and older or African-American males 65 years and older
2. No history of prostate cancer

WHAT IS INVOLVED IF I PARTICIPATE?
Duration:One time office visit (approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour long)
Tests/Procedures:Blood draw for PSA and genetic analysis, digital rectal exam to check for signs of prostate cancer, 1 page questionnaire
Risks:Will be discussed as part of the informed consent process
Benefits:A PSA test and exam to check for signs of prostate cancer at no cost to volunteer
Compensation:No financial compensation
